Dji Mansa Phase 2: Citizen science for preserving the quality of the Niger River

Toutes les initiatives

The Dji Mansa project, led by Afr’Eau, promotes sustainable management of the Niger River by leveraging the local knowledge and practices of riverside communities, combined with citizen science approaches.

Phase 1 (2024-2025) documented these practices, trained young people and women in collecting water quality data, and mobilized communities around river protection.

Phase 2 will reinforce these dynamics: it will aim to optimize local knowledge in the treatment and analysis of drinking water quality, experiment with water treatment using moringa, produce educational videos, raise awareness, and support local residents in integrating these approaches into their habits.

Dji Mansa is an interdisciplinary project rooted in the territory, based on inclusion, intercultural dialogue, and knowledge transfer, to reconnect populations with their river and sustainably preserve its resources.
