St. Lawrence Expedition

Toutes les initiatives

The St. Lawrence Expedition led by Stratégies Saint-Laurent is a journey around the St. Lawrence River by a team of multidisciplinary professionals whose main goal is to mobilize coastal communities to take action to protect the St. Lawrence River. The objective is to mobilize all stakeholders (municipalities, citizens, elected officials, businesses, etc.) in each territory to take action during our collective clean-up activities, to encourage citizens to change their consumption habits in order to reduce the amount of waste they generate, and to get municipalities to sign on to the “St. Lawrence Challenge” so that they make specific commitments to reduce plastic in their territory. Our team also includes scientists who conduct scientific analyses of the type of waste present in order to better understand its origin and impact. Our scientists also take soil samples to measure microplastic content. Our team also includes scuba divers who perform underwater clean-up operations and collect soil samples from the bottom of the St. Lawrence River. Finally, a communications and awareness team is responsible for reaching the entire population of Quebec through traditional media and social networks in order to, once again, promote the involvement of the entire population in protecting the St. Lawrence and reducing the amount of waste generated at the source.
