Kisal Diiwaan Falémé for a preserved Falémé region

Toutes les initiatives

The Kisal Diiwaan project – preserved territory – aims to strengthen the resilience of local communities living along the Falémé, a strategic tributary of the Senegal River on the border between Senegal and Mali. Faced with growing tensions linked to unregulated gold mining, pressure on natural resources, and the effects of climate change, the Kisal Diiwaan project offers a localized, coordinated, and sustainable response. Led by GRDR and its partners, the initiative supports local actors—agro-pastoralists, fishermen, gold miners, communities, and CSOs—to preserve biodiversity, restore degraded sites, and improve access to water through multifunctional mini-boreholes. By promoting local knowledge, reactivating cross-border consultation frameworks, and supporting community warning systems, the Kisal Diiwaan project promotes peace, coexistence, and shared management of natural resources linked to the river. It embodies a strong commitment to ecological sustainability, social justice, and stability in this coveted but vulnerable cross-border area.
