Resilience of island communities in Casamance in the face of climate change
Toutes les initiativesThe Kafountine island region, located in Lower Casamance in Senegal, is bearing the brunt of climate change (CC), which is undermining the livelihoods of local communities: declining agricultural production, water salinization, loss of biodiversity, etc. This has resulted in food insecurity, youth emigration, and the depletion and overexploitation of fishery and mangrove resources.
The KASOFOR project aims to increase the resilience of populations in a holistic and sustainable manner. The Energy for the World Foundation (FONDEM), an expert in electrification and rural development, has set up a consortium to carry out the KASOFOR project in response to a request from local elected officials, drawing on actors with complementary expertise. KASOFOR aims to create sustainable economic opportunities and strengthen local ecological governance, with a focus on improving essential services (electricity, water), biodiversity, and gender equality.
