Monitoring and alerts for water levels in the Beuvron river basin
Toutes les initiativesFollowing the severe floods of 2015 and 2016, flood risk prevention became a top priority for SEBB. To better anticipate and manage these events, 10 monitoring stations were installed to monitor the 1,028 km of waterways within the region. In parallel, an early warning system was implemented to quickly inform local decision-makers in the event of rising water levels, providing them with valuable data to enable effective crisis response.
In the context of climate change, these monitoring stations also play a crucial role during periods of low water flow, allowing for better monitoring and more precise management of water resources, particularly in light of the increasing frequency of droughts. However, the absence of a monitoring station directly near some municipalities complicates decision-making.
To address this issue, SEBB proposed the installation of local water level gauges, along with a practical guide for municipalities. These tools allow for reliable measurements and better interpretation of data from upstream stations, thus facilitating informed decision-making on the ground.
This initiative is part of a broader approach to raising awareness and fostering a culture of risk preparedness.
All data from this monitoring system is freely available on the SEBB website.
