2025 Rivers projects

Toutes les initiatives

The Rivers 2025 missions developed by Wings of the Ocean aim to better understand the role of rivers in transporting waste before it reaches the sea, by conducting field activities on the Garonne and Rhône rivers. This initiative is based on two regional missions: in the Gironde region (around the Garonne River and the Guâ watershed) and in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region (around the Rhône River and the Camargue delta). The missions include waste collection, scientific monitoring (OSPAR protocol, Adopt’1Spot), raising awareness among local communities, and engaging citizens.

In the Gironde region, the project also includes an innovative initiative: the legal recognition of the Garonne River, supported by a group of associations, elected officials, and citizens.

The objective is twofold: to reduce plastic pollution and to strengthen the connection between local residents and their river, by building a long-term dynamic of co-management of the river ecosystem.
