Rivers in common — Interdisciplinary workshop on research-creation and action research in urban planning
Toutes les initiatives“Rivers in Common” is a research, teaching, and cross-sector mobilization initiative focused on the social, cultural, and environmental issues surrounding major rivers. Led by the UNESCO Chair in Urban Landscape at the University of Montreal, it aims to ensure the ecological, water, social, and cultural sustainability of the St. Lawrence River, in dialogue with other continental rivers: the Mekong, Mississippi, Nile, Red River, Amazon, Ganges, and Congo.
Since 2021, Rivers in Common has been combining research-creation, action research, and comparative pedagogy through international studios, regional workshops, scientific publications, and public exhibitions. The initiative brings together a vast network of researchers, professionals, students, citizens, and institutions at the local and international levels.
It aims to foster a community of practice committed to fairer and more sustainable river governance by promoting local knowledge, raising public awareness, and supporting public policy. In this way, it contributes to reconciling science, river cultures, and collective action in the face of the challenges of climate change and urbanization.
