The Nyong River Guardian Schools

Toutes les initiatives

This project is supported by “CHASAADDM”. Faced with the accelerated degradation of the Nyong watersheds, aggravated by the precariousness of the riverside communities and their environmentally harmful practices, CHASAADD-M carries out an initiative that makes children and young people the primary guardians of their river territory.

The project is structured around five complementary actions: environmental awareness in schools, the creation of 10 community agroecological gardens run by young rural entrepreneurs, the establishment of a buyout fund guaranteeing an economic outlet for production, the participatory development of the banks of the Nyong’s tributaries, and the creation of 10 Environment Clubs in schools.

Implemented in collaboration with the TAFS of the CNOPCAM over a period of 3 years in the Central Region of Cameroon, this project targets schools (nursery, primary, secondary) and young people who have dropped out from nearby communities.

By linking education, economic integration and community management of natural resources, the initiative aims to bring about a lasting and measurable change in behavior for the benefit of the Nyong River and the people who depend on it.
