Community agroforestry corridors for river restoration and food resilience in the territory of Dibaya (Kasaï Central, DRC)
Toutes les initiativesThis project is supported by “AYIID”. The project aims to rehabilitate and renew the river ecosystem of the territory of Dibaya in the province of Kasai Central in the Democratic Republic of Congo by establishing community agroforestry corridors along local rivers. Rivers, especially in rural areas, are also the basic raw material for agriculture, domestic use and local livelihoods. Nevertheless, deforestation, unsustainable use of agricultural land and soil erosion lead to a slow decline in the condition of riverbanks and soil fertility. Here, he proposes a method of integrated landscape management, ranging from the ecological restoration of riverbanks to the creation of agroforestry systems and the activation of local community action. Community nurseries will be established to produce tree seedlings for riverbank restoration and implement agroforestry systems around villages. Communities, especially women and youth, will be directly involved in the implementation of activities. The project is designed to be a pilot project on river landscape restoration that could be replicated in other territories of Kasai Central and other regions of the Congo Basin.
