The IFGR experts

The IFGR delegation received at the French Embassy in China  – October 2019

The originality of IFGR is to have wanted to associate, since it was founded, experts and practitioners from different backgrounds, united around the same cause: that of rivers. This plurality is today the strength of our association to propose recommendations and global solutions that breakthrough barriers between disciplines, scales of time and space.

Reputed experts of Earth and Life sciences, Human and Social sciences are associated with river basin managers, institutional representatives but also managers of hydroelectric or port infrastructures and professionals of the agricultural sector and industry. Selected for their expertise and their area of influence, the IFGR members are divided into two groups:

  1. The Rivers Committee, whose multidisciplinary positioning allows it to provide general recommendations and represent IFGR at different levels
  2. The Resource Experts Committee, which provides in-depth technical analyses on river management.

The decision to entrust the chair of IFGR to Erik Orsenna is based on the observation that rivers remain unknown to the general public, as they are often considered as industrial tools, based on technical or scientific approaches. Since the creation of the association, Erik Orsenna has contributed his talent as a writer and storyteller, as well as his expertise as an economist specialized in natural resources and geopolitics.
