At the crossroads of demographic, economic, climatic and environmental challenges, rivers represent formidable areas of study and experimentation for implementing different transitions towards a more sustainable world.

We work with different international institutions and stakeholders in the world of water to promote global change.

WATER & CLIMATE

  • The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) is a specialised institution of the United Nations that currently has 193 members. It is an authority on everything concerning the state and evolution of the Earth’s atmosphere, its interaction with land and the oceans, the weather and climate that it generates and the resulting distribution of water resources. IFGR has forged a structural partnership of collaboration with the WMO for 4 years.

  • The Tara Océan Foundation, the first foundation in France recognised as a public utility devoted to the oceans, develops scientific knowledge on the oceans open to the general public. IFGR has launched the Charter on Plastic-free Oceans with the Fondation Tara Océan.

  • The World Water Council, a multipartite forum whose mission is to impel actions on critical water problems at every level.

  • The French Partnership for Water (PFE) is a reference forum that groups 200 French public and private actors active internationally. It favours the dissemination of their knowhow and gives voice to a collective plea expressed in international bodies, so that water becomes a priority in sustainable development policies.

  • UNESCO recognizes IAGF as an official partner (consultation status) to promote international   cooperation in the areas of climate change adaptation, ecosystem health and water security.

BIODIVERSITY

  • The IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature)  is a membership Union uniquely composed of both government and civil society organisations. It provides public, private and non-governmental organisations with the knowledge and tools that enable human progress, economic development and nature conservation to take place together.

IFGR is also member of IUCN – French Committee.

Health

  • The Foundation for a Sustainable Health for All acts in favour of health accessible to all, whose approach has no frontiers between human and animal medicine, and the environment. IFGR is a partner in its initiative One Sustainable Health Forum to include Global Health in the SDG of Agenda 2030.

IFGR and the Climate COPs

Our 3rd and 5th sessions, dedicated to deltas (Avignon –October 2016) and pollution (Lyon and Annecy- October 2017), respectively, received the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change label (UNFCCC), as an event preparing the way for the COP Climate Conference of the Parties.

Furthermore, we regularly intervene during these major meetings to raise the theme of rivers: COP22 at Marrakech; COP23 at Bonn; COP24 at Katowice.
