AquaObs – Citizen observatory of aquatic environments in Haute-Loire / Casamance

This project is led by “GIS Senegal”. AquaObs is a participatory mapping application aimed at strengthening the knowledge, preservation and sustainable management of aquatic environments in Haute-Loire as well as in Casamance

The project is based on a mobile application allowing anglers, volunteers and citizens to collect and share their catches and field observations (state of the environment, biodiversity, anomalies, pressures).

This geolocated data is then structured, visualized, and enhanced in order to:

better understand the state of fish populations in watercourses
raise awareness among local populations
to promote cooperation between stakeholders in the region

Deployed with local stakeholders, notably the fishing federation of Haute-Loire 43, AquaObs transforms existing uses (fishing, observation, leisure) into a real participatory environmental monitoring tool.

The initiative is helping to reconnect residents with their rivers and foster a local culture of water conservation in the face of climate change.
