Guaire River Linear Park
Toutes les initiativesThis project is led by “Enlace Asociación Civil”. The Parque Lineal Río Guaire initiative is a long-term urban and environmental project in Caracas, aiming to transform the polluted Guaire corridor into an accessible public space.
It stems from years of research, public engagement and citizen exploration promoted through the Río Guaire platform.
The project reimagines the river not as an infrastructure or waste canal, but as a central ecological and social asset. A key goal is to reconnect citizens with the river through new public spaces and pedestrian access. The proposal envisages a continuous linear park of up to 16 km along the shore, but rather than proposing a single mega-project, it is designed as gradual interventions on several segments. The first phase focuses on one kilometer of 1.8 km in the Colinas de Bello Monte.
The Parque Lineal Río Guaire at Colinas de Bello Monte includes tree plantations, pedestrian paths, cycling infrastructure and public facilities. Ecological strategies such as biofilters and permeable drainage are integrated to improve environmental performance. The project also promotes the reuse of materials, reducing construction waste by reusing asphalt and concrete debris as granular materials for filtration drainage. The linear park responds to the lack of public space in the neighboring neighborhood of Colinas de Bello Monte and seeks to change the negative perceptions embedded in the river as polluted and inaccessible. Participation has been central, through walks, workshops and educational activities. Institutional partnerships support its implementation, combining public, private and civic actors.
The park aims to improve quality of life through recreation, mobility and a closer connection with the river.
We wish to change the vision and the culture of the city towards the river Guaire. To this end, the effort and the wish are collectively forged through a multidisciplinary network of architects, ecologists, artists and residents who contribute articles, testimonies and maps available on its website. Together, they contribute to reimagine the river from several angles, presenting it as a cultural landscape shaped by history, memory and urban transformation.
Ultimately, this initiative is a catalyst for broader river restoration and urban transformation, and represents a clear shift toward a more inclusive, eco-friendly, and citizen-centered vision for Caracas.
