On 26 June, the new locks of the Panama Canal were inaugurated in the presence of a large number of Heads of State. CNR Engineering won two calls for tenders to design and provide physical and numerical models of the future locks.
These general design studies contributed to the project to double the canal’s capacity and its access to the new generation of cargo ships. Despite the fact that the lock chambers are twice as large, the new locks consume 8% less water than the previous ones for a filling time of no more than 10 minutes.
