Session no. 2 of the IFGR panel at Montreal

IFGR session at Montreal in April 2016

The 2nd session of Initiatives for the Future of Great Rivers was held at Montréal, from 18 to 21 April 2016, at the Montreal Port Administration (APM) in the presence of its President and CEO, Mrs Sylvie Vachon, and the Mayor of Montreal, Mr Denis Coderre.

The four days of work were dedicated to a practical case, workshops and a presentation of the port to the stakeholders, including the City of Montreal and all those of the Saint Lawrence River.

The debates led to the production of several directly usable documents:

  • The practical case of Montreal gave the opportunity to deal with two subjects: setting up an adaptive resource management approach between the United States and Canada, and the relations between the stakeholders in the framework of creating a new port terminal. The white paper presents ten recommendations supported by concrete examples taken from experiences in different countries.
  • The workshops gave rise to the drafting of guiding principles and concrete projects for IFGR regarding two themes: risk culture and new energy models.
