Exploring the theme of rivers on a wider scale, beyond their sole uses as sources of energy, as waterways, and for irrigation. Being aware of their myriad facets in order to achieve sustainable results in a world become complex. Bernd Gundermann is convinced of their importance and invites us to understand rivers through a selection of European art works, from the Middle Ages to today.
A geographer, architect, urban planner and teacher, Bernd Gundermann has worked all over the world to better integrate towns and cities in their natural environment and meet the challenges of climate change. He has been a member of IFGR’s rivers committee since 2015. His work is the first of a collection that IFGR is launching to enrich the ways in which rivers are perceived.
