Installation of waste barriers to prevent plastic pollution from reaching rivers and oceans
Toutes les initiativesSungai Watch is an environmental organization whose mission is to keep plastic out of the ocean by cleaning up rivers. By designing simple garbage barriers and operating a collection, sorting and recycling system, Sungai Watch has created an evolutionary approach to tackling plastic pollution that is currently operating in Bali and Java, Indonesia. Sungai Watch is committed to using its river barrier technology, operations and relationships with local partners to support the expansion of the Bekasi River clean-up. Sungai Watch will expand its operations in the Bekasi region by building and installing 100 garbage barriers in the most polluted rivers, acquiring a sorting facility, hiring and training a team of 50-60 people and managing a collection, sorting and recycling program to clean the 100 barriers per day and remove and sort 3,000,000 kilograms of plastic over two years. Sungai Watch will also work upstream of its gates through community education, awareness campaigns and illegal landfill clean-up. Since the end of 2020, 2.1 million kg of plastic have been collected by deploying 285 garbage barriers in Bali and East Java, Indonesia.
