New MOOC on port cities

Monday 26th May sees the start of the free 5 week on-line course "(Re)imagining port cities: understanding space, society and culture" developed by the PortCityFutures team at the University of Delft (Netherlands). IGFR has been asked to contribute to this project, bringing its multi-disciplinary approach and the experiences of its experts.

The PortCityFutures team is a growing multidisciplinary community, united by a common interest in understanding and providing innovative solutions to the challenges facing port cities worldwide. One of its objectives is to make its knowledge accessible and useful to the widest possible public, as the relationship between the City, its River, its Port goes beyond the simple economic dimension and today questions the key issues of adaptation to climate change, the social acceptability of large industrial projects and the participation of citizens in decisions. Blog posts, academic articles, and short films are the formats developed.

PortCityFutures is launching on 26 May its first joint educational programme, in the form of a free open online course (MOOC) : “(Re)Imagining Port Cities: Understanding Space, Society and Culture“, with the support of eminent researchers from Delft University of Technology, Erasmus University and Leiden University.

IFGR has been asked to contribute to the design of this program and two of our members – Bernd Gundermann (architect and urban planner) and Daniel Dagenais, Vice President of Operations of the Montreal Port Authority, are participating in the form of an interview.

This program is open on the EdX platform and is aimed at professionals of the waterways and ports, Master’s students in architecture, urban planning or environment and any citizen of port cities, concerned by this subject.
