Crossing unknown currents beneath known waters : a thought-provoking journey through the Burha-Luit River (Brahmaputra)
Toutes les initiativesThe river project launched by the Assam State branch of the Indian Red Cross is set to tackle a range of themes vital to the well-being of communities residing along the Brahmaputra River. At the heart of the effort is the imperative of flood management, aimed at ameliorating floods that pose a recurring threat to livelihoods and infrastructure. Complementing this objective, a concerted effort to prepare for and respond to disasters (floods, cyclones) provides communities with the tools and knowledge they need to cope with them and mitigate their effects. In addition, the project strives to improve sanitation standards and ensure access to drinking water, combat common water-borne diseases and improve public health outcomes. At the same time, the initiative prioritizes the cultivation of community resilience. In line with sustainability principles, the project aims to foster sustainable development practices, promoting livelihoods that harmonize with the integrity of the river ecosystem. Finally, health care emerges as a fundamental theme, with provisions for adapted health services. The project aspires to generate holistic upliftment and empowerment within the communities attached to the Brahmaputra River.
