Nakambé – A river of life, climate resilience, and community integration

Toutes les initiatives

The Nakambé River directly supports more than 500,000 inhabitants dependent on agriculture, fishing, and livestock, but its ecosystem is under severe pressure (sand encroachment, deforestation of riverbanks, chemical pollution, and climate impacts). To address this, the Association Graine de l’Espoir has been rolling out an integrated ecological restoration and sustainable management initiative since 2024. The project, already operational through pilot actions with measurable results, combines reforestation of riverbanks, agroecological transition, community regulation of fisheries and water, as well as local awareness. By combining environmental preservation and climate adaptation, this approach aims to make Nakambé a regional model of sustainable cohabitation, in perfect harmony with the principles of the Living With Rivers label.
