The river aloud

Le fleuve à voix haute honors the poetics of rivers and weaves a correspondence between the Rhône and the Great Rivers of the world.

Between 2024 and 2027, the company Troisième Rêve Théâtre will create a number of scenic forms: performances, participatory creations, musical readings, workshops…

Intended to travel the length of the Rhône, they will also travel to other rivers, particularly their deltas and estuaries, to share their stories and imaginary of rivers with the public.

“Poets are the ambassadors of the mute world”, says Francis Ponge. So it seems to us that poetry is just the thing to carry the voice of rivers. But are these freshwater giants really so mute?

Or is our own ability to hear them lacking? The first lesson the river teaches us is that time does not exist, that everything is a cycle, renewal and immediate presence. In this holistic vision made possible by poetry, the mouth finds its link with the source, and real rivers join the great mythical ones. The outer river becomes a metaphor for our own inner river.
