The lower harbors of the Saône become biodiversity refuges

Toutes les initiatives

After rehabilitating 450 meters of waterway to promote biodiversity at Lyon’s Confluence and Guillotière areas, the Des Espèces Parmi Lyon association is now undertaking the ecological restoration of the Saône’s lower harbors, right in the heart of Lyon! The project, initiated and led by the association, is unique in that it aims to transform a 200-meter-long concrete quay into wet meadows and riparian vegetation, creating an educational promenade focusing on the flora and fauna of wetlands. The program includes the removal of 1,000 m² of concrete, the creation of 12 ponds and the planting of almost 3,000 plants. The work will be completed by June 2024.
